- Before You Depart: Plan your journey by checking traffic, the travel updates and weather forecast. Your ski resort or lodge may have specific instructions or updates.
- It's Okay To Delay: Reconsider travel if the weather is undesirable or you don't feel comfortable.
- Slowly Does It: Drive slowly and allow more space. Drive to the conditions not the speed limit.
- Beware Of Skidding: Avoid sudden movements, accelerate smoothly and brake gently.
- Take A Break: Allow for a rest stop every 2 hours.
- Day Over Night: Drive during the day, where visibility is better. Use your lights dipped in fog, rain or snow.
- Be Prepared: Make sure you have enough fuel, including for turning back if the weather is not suitable. Ensure you have warm clothing, bottled water and emergency supplies or a survival kit in your vehicle.
- Know Your Chains: Ensure you know how to fit snow chains, before they're needed.
