Terms and Conditions

• Valid participating Avis airport locations worldwide.
• Members must provide their AAdvantage membership number at the time of rental.
• AWD must be included at time of booking/rental.
• Airline flight is not required to earn mileage credit.
• Miles may not be earned on free, tour or certain travel industry rates and may only be earned in one frequent traveler program per rental.

Frequent Flyer Tax 

A Frequent Traveler Program Surcharge or Excise Tax may be applied and will be assessed in connection with miles earned pursuant to a reservation. For rentals in the United States, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Croix and Canada, when the renter chooses to receive frequent flyer miles from the following U.S. airline and hotel programs, Avis will assess a frequent flyer surcharge equivalent to USD $0.75 per day (except $1.00 per day for American Airlines, Copa Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines). The amount assessed is collected by Avis to offset a portion of Avis' annual cost of participation in frequent flyer programs.

As the airline with the world's largest fleet, American Airlines flies thousands of customers around the world each day. If you're a regular passenger, you may want to join the AAdvantage program. As the frequent flyers program for AA, it allows you to gather miles to spend on future flights. At Avis New Zealand, we want to make it easier for you to build your miles total. To make that possible, we've partnered with American Airlines so you can earn AAdvantage miles with every booking you complete.

The benefits of the American Airlines car hire partnership

Building AAdvantage miles makes it easier for you to see more of the world without spending a lot of money. Once you collect enough miles, you can use them to pay for a flight, part-pay for a flight, or upgrade to a different class. Although you can collect miles every time you fly, we want to help you collect them when you drive too.

Every time you hire a car with Avis New Zealand, you'll earn a set number of AAdvantage miles per rental. You don't need to have an existing American Airlines booking to see the benefits of our agreement. Just provide us with proof of your AAdvantage membership at the time of hiring a car.

Our offer is available at participating airport locations in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean. The miles will appear on your total around six to eight weeks after your booking completes.

FAQs

Does American Airlines charge for bags?

American Airlines doesn't charge for your standard-sized carry on bag. You can also take one personal item for free. If you want to check a bag into the hold, you'll pay a set fee per case. The number of bags you can check-in vary depending on whether you're taking a transatlantic, transpacific, or domestic flight.

How do American Airlines AAdvantage miles work?

You can collect American Airlines AAdvantage miles when you fly with the airline or one of its partners. Additionally, you can collect miles as a part of partner programs, such as our car hire agreement. Once you have enough miles, you can use them to book flights with American Airlines and other members of the OneWorld Alliance.
